On Saturday 30th July our annual nominated rinks took place. Matches were played down to to a final which will now take place during club finals weekend.

Both semi finals were really close. The team of John Slavin, Russell Frame, Tom McGowan and Ian Ferguson got off to a flying start against Jim Rodger, Jim Lindsay, Jim Shearer and Ronnie Munro. However, a succession of winning ends from the mid part of the game brought Ronnie and his team right back into contention and playing the last end they were two up, only for Ian’s team to secure a count of four with an inspired end. Both teams played a great game in this 17-15 thriller and in the end either side could have won.

In the other semi-final the team of Danny Frew, George Aitken, Tom Mathieson and Tom Simpson faced Graham McKelvie, Robert Hume, Fraser McGarry and Alex Kerr. It was nip and tuck for the first third of the game but in the middle of the match some inspired bowls by Tom Simpson, backed by his ever steady front three, enabled his side to build a small lead. Alex and his team never gave up and mounted a comeback over the last £ ends.However, it just wasn’t enough and Tom’s team saw the match out for a fine 13-11 win.

The final will be a very close one to call and whatever happens, the club will have four excellent players who will represent us in the Bowls Scotland Distric play-offs next season.
